On this show a focus on a couple of musical acquaintances of mine - Tamsin Middleton aka Vice Vera (Mr Heart, AAAK, Liines) and Steve Simms-Luddington (Monkeys In Love, Royal Catastrophe) who is calling himself Russell for a series of multi-named releases. Also I have the brand new album from Dave Graney and Clare Moore (See here for my review) plus the new albums I have been featuring lately and also some selections from the archive to make the mix a little more eclectic.

SHOW NOTES
Vice Vera - Tamsin has been developing her one woman show for several years now and two stand-out tracks in the show demonstrate her skills as both performer and composer. She is ably assisted by Neil from Neural Dance who takes up production duties.
Celebrity Sex Olympics, A Normal Devil ,The Fabian Society UK, Monkeys In Love - Steve has been developing a string of material all associated with the mysterious Russell. I have collated the last three projects and also included music from his exciting earlier band Monkeys In Love.
Dave Graney and Clare Moore - the second album this year which is very far removed from its predecessor (strangely) (emotional). A compilation of work gathered over a number of years this collection explores the more experimental side of Dave and Clare work. Two tracks featured. As usual I will be playing the whole album over the coming weeks. I am advised even more releases are planned!
Slyboots - this new track from the New York band invites us to take a moment to imagine what kind of world we could create if we didn’t have to carry all the weight of the past on our backs, if we could let go of all the toxic cycles, petty grievances, and old resentments. Maybe, just maybe, we could break free and embrace our humanity along with everyone else’s, and a whole new universe would open up.
Three tracks from recent obsessions Neon Kittens, Snarski vs Snarski, and, The Stress Of Leisure. From York to the Antipodes, good music can be found if you look hard enough,
A new release from the electro rockers Neural Dance featuring musicians I have worked with via other bands. The aforementioned Neil Mykowski (The Ascension) and Mark Taylor (Four Candles, Black Limousine - which also featured Neil)
Sun Atoms - I haven’t got a clue what gaze-wave is but this band from Portland are described as such. They have been featured on a previous show and have caught my ear.
Fairport Convention do Bob Dylan. Bob does Bob. The Fairport’s then demonstrate more of their folk side. Music from another century which has lasted remarkably well,
Neil Young - I was sorting through some old CDs recently and came across this one. His 23rd studio album which features members of Pearl Jam. It was released on August 7, 1995. The “Godfather of Grunge” meets the extant proponents of same.
Alfredo Santa Ana / Miranda Wong - Mexican/Canadian composer Alfredo Santa Ana writes music for live performance, electronic music, and sometimes for films. He has collaborated with a number of artists and ensembles—among Canada's best. These include the NYO Canada, Standing Wave Ensemble, Turning Point Ensemble, Orchestre de la Francophonie, ECM+, the Victoria Symphony, the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, and most recently vocal ensemble musica intima.
Miranda Wong is very much the ideal collaborator for the works on this album, given her comfort with both the music of the traditional classical repertoire and the complexities of various contemporary idioms. Her solo career has taken her to stages across Canada, the United States, England, and on many occasions before the microphones of CBC Radio. In the ten years as pianist of the contemporary music ensemble, Aventa, she has appeared at venues and festivals in North America (including the Roulette in Brooklyn, New York; Music Gallery and Gallery 345 in Toronto; and the Montreal New Music Festival) and Europe (including Copenhagen’s Athelas Festival and Munich’s A-DEvantgarde Festival).
The Apartments - the work of Peter Milton Walsh remains an abiding obsession and I recently started revisiting his back catalogue. This 2011 single is a particularly favourite despite it’s somewhat downbeat vibe. It’s been four years since we had some new music from PMW, time for something new I reckon.
The Necks - how do you feature The Necks on a two hour show when most of their albums are just under an hour in length and comprise one track? In this case via a judicious edit of their new one hopefully will inspire you to seek out the rest. An utterly unique trio who I have had the pleasure of seeing on a couple of occasions.
