Another mix of old and new, current obsessions and favourites from years back, a lot of Australian stuff. Varied and fascinating in equal measure.

SHOW NOTES
Gentles - Metal Postcard continue to provide us with fine musical offerings. Of this one label head Sean says:
Here's their first ep released a few years back
We'll be re-releasing their back catalogue in dribs and drabs over the next few months to wet your appetite for their latest.
Another classic Melbourne band that somehow straddle Alien Nose Job, Cuntz (I so miss that band), newbies, The Judges and it may sound weird but also Jet if you are old enough to remember how fresh their first release sounded.
This is all out Melbourne Rock'n'roll that smells like the Espy of old and sends a shiver up my spine. I hope it does yours.
Neverland Ranch Davidians - a couple more tracks from their new album which was released on LP, CD and download via Heavy Medication Records on February 7. The Davidians’ lineup features vocalist/guitarist Tex Mosley (vocals, guitar), Will Bentley (guitar, backing vocals), and Max Hagen (drums, backing vocals). While the band does not feature bass guitar in its live shows, Greg “Smog” Boaz (Mavis Staples, Dave Alvin and the Guilty Men, Tex & the Horseheads) plays bass on the new album. A native of Philadelphia, Tex Mosley relocated to Los Angeles in the early 1980s and has played in a succession of punk-leaning bands: Bad Actor, featuring Michael “Spider” Sanders of Afro-punk legends Pure Hell; Whores of Babylon with Circle Jerks singer Keith Morris; The Slaves with Richard Elerick (AKA punk vocalist “Rik L Rik”); The Hangmen, a group which recorded an unreleased album for Geffen with Mosley; The Duane Peters Gunfight, a Tex-Mex infused punk group featuring skateboarding legend Duane Peters; and the power pop-leaning Neighborhood Bullys. It was with the latter band that Mosley backed up Detroit legend Suzi Quatro for her 2011 album, In the Spotlight. Neverland Ranch Davidians formed in Hollywood in 2019. Mosley, Bentley and Hagen honed their sound performing at a string of southern California live shows before recording their self-titled debut album in 2022 which was released in January 2023.
Pink Turns Blue - Today made up of Mic Jogwer (vocals, guitar), Paul Richter (drums) and Luca Sammuri (bass), Pink Turns Blue - named after a Hüsker Dü song - emerged in 1985 in the first generation of gothic rock.
The Go-Betweens - more tracks from the recently released box set. The final track from The Friends of Rachel Worth which is Robert Forsters’ tribute to Patti Smith - and the first two tracks from Bright Yellow Bright Orange.
Ultra Lights - the first release from this band from Atlanta, Georgia
Dumb Crush - from Toronto raw, unfiltered, and absolutely relentless. The promo says:
Handle with care. This band isn’t here to play nice—they’re here to blow up the mundane grind of 21st-century life. Made teup of DIY music veterans Owen Hooper, Liam Colbert, and Elliott Isaac, Dumb Crush is a united front of seasoned performers who’ve played hundreds of shows across North America and Europe and amassed over a million streams collectively. Instead of following cookie-cutter trends, they flipped the script: their singles “Witches In The Dark” and “Get Away” were recorded live in one day (August 30th, 2024) and have already made waves.
Dave Graney and Clare Moore - Dave says
The Trojan Egg was built up from the skeleton of a song that appeared on Fearful Wiggings in 2014. Its a nice prog ending to an album of strangeness and-hopefully-quirks and charm.
As I have exhausted this recent album I’ll be going back to the 2002 album “Heroic Blues” from next week for eleven programmes.
More tracks from albums I am currently featuring from Party Dozen and Poppycock
I thought I would investigate the back catalogue of Shaw's Trailer Park. This is from the 2023 version of STP debut album from 2022 - slightly different track-listing - somewhat confusing.
Salem Trials - a couple of teaser tracks from their new one which was somewhat delayed - more of that in future weeks. The second track is exclusive to this single
Rui Da Silva & Cosmic Bambino - the fourth release on Infinity & Beyond Records. This track is a modern ode to the golden age of house music, driven by hypnotic basslines, soulful piano riffs, and shimmering hi-hats that will light up any dance floor. It’s the perfect mix of nostalgia and innovation, capturing the spirit of the underground while pushing forward into new sonic territories.
Another track from one of my featured albums from The Beasts
Einstürzende Neubauten - described by some as their masterpiece - the sixth full-length studio album released in 1993.
Sorrows - from the celebrated NYC power pop pioneers. Recorded, like the band's full forthcoming album in a one-night whirlwind 1981 studio session and unheard until now, it's a supercharged original blending pop hooks and punk energy, and it captures the band's definitive line-up at their fiery peak. I will feature the album in future weeks.
SUMAC And Moor Mother - from their debut collaborative album, The Film, to be released on April 25th. This is the album's first single and opening track . The track serves as a mere fragment of a work meant to be taken as a whole, but is nonetheless overwhelming in it's musical prowess. Moor Mother's singular delivery and dynamics are on full display, gliding and puncturing through SUMAC's waves of textural distortion.
The Conspiracy - more from Metal Postcard and a preview of their forthcoming album. Sean says:
If you love Julian Cope, XTC (English Settlement), The Mob, The Dancing Did & Modern Nature you'll love what the Conspiracy are doing. Their music gets more singularly English and mystic with each new release. In our opinion they are turning ito the the great undicovered English act of the decade.
Blokeacola - another single from his stand out album
Ecce Shnak - back with their continual exploration of our modern life - this time around, they take a deep-dive into the trash and treasure of the WWW. The quintet mocks the web from the perspective of a time-travelling poet, asking “What the fuck is the internet?!” A bit zany, intricately constructed and undeniably offbeat, 'The Internet' is as serious and logical as it’s entertaining. Not up on Bandcamp at the time of writing so here’s a nice photo of the band.
Legless Crabs/Occult Character -some tunes from Matt from a couple of years back. Watch this space for some news about a release.
The Jackson Code - a track from the debut album from 1989. I included this to note the current tour of the Antipodes by the Snarski Brothers.
Jess Ribeiro - this album is nearly ten years old and has lost none of its magic. Wonderful writing from Jess
Acid Mothers Temple & The Cosmic Inferno - they are playing Manchester soon so this came to mind - from a vast discography which transcends time and space a tune which has had dozens of iterations over the years - this is from 2008 and was re-released in 2022. Repetition taken to the extreme and abstract.
